3D Scanner Upgrade

Me and my friends started offering scanning services and e're using a depth sensor with a tablet. it works fine for scanning faces and larger objects but not that great for small, high detail scans. I'm looking for a budgetfriendly upgrade, preferably under $800?

also, I have a 720p projector and a DSLR is there a DIY setup I could try? Any recos would be super helpful! Thanks!

Howdy. I was in your shoes a while back trying to scan some small car parts with a tablet and getting nowhere fast. For your budget I'd look into the Revopoint or Creality scanner lineups they are night and day for capturing fine details on little items.
That DIY projector route you mentioned is a whole different snake pit. I looked into it myself and realized you can spend more time on calibration and software than you do actually scanning things. What kinds of small objects are you trying to capture for your business?

I'd recommend the Revopoint mini because it does better with the finer details. It's not that something like pop3 won't do a good job, but you already have an equipment that can handle that.

If you're planning to DIY, using your DSLR with structured light via the projector could definitely work, though it takes some calibration. Have you checked out software like 3DF Zephyr or Meshroom? They might help pull it all together!
