Learning how to reverse engineer a 35ft boat

I'm trying to figure out how to reverse engineer a 35ft boat so I can rebuild it. This is completely new territory for me, so I want to start simple. My plan is to scan the hull and move it into CAD...after that, a knowledgeable friend can handle the complex parts. Could a beginner rent a scanner for this, or is hiring help smarter?

I had a 28ft fishing boat I wanted to fix up before. I thought about renting a 3D scanner, but it was tricky to learn. So I hired a local scanning company for one day. They gave me a clean file I could use in CAD. If you're new to this, hiring someone might be easier and faster. Once you have the scan, you and your friend can work on the design. Good luck!

That's exactly what I was wondering, it sounds like hiring out the scan might save me a lot of frustration. I'll check around locally for a service and let my friend handle the CAD side
