Tips and Tools for Scan Processing

Lately realizing that scan processing is where a huge chunk of the work and frustration lives. Capturing the raw data is one thing, but cleaning it up, aligning multiple scans, and getting a clean mesh feels like a whole separate skill set to be honest

Right now I'm using MeshLab and CloudCompare for cleanup and alignment, but I'm open to anything that can speed up the workflow or improve mesh quality especially for scans with complex geometry or less than ideal lighting.

I'm not sure what you need this for and how you work, but I think that RealityCapture or 3DF Zephyr will do a pretty good job for most projects.

You're using solid open source tools, but for speed and complex geometry, honestly, the commercial software solutions really shine.
Look into Geomagic Wrap or Artec Studio (if you're using an Artec scanner).
They have much more robust and automated algorithms for cleanup, alignment, and meshing. It's an investment, but the time saved can be huge

Thanks for the tip! I'm just getting into this, so definitely appreciate the heads-up. I'll look into Geomagic Wrap. sounds like it could really level things up for me.
